STAGE 3 OF 7 · TEAM, OR NO TEAM
The step after arrive-and-drive. The team brings the kart, engine, tent and mechanic; you bring the driver.
For kids and adults · ages Any class the team runs · parent role: reading a book · $500–1k club · $5–10k national
Most SoCal teams will rent you a race-ready kart for a weekend, from a club round to SuperNationals. It’s how families try a class, or a track, or a series, before buying. It’s also how national racing works for most people.
What it costs
| Item | This year |
|---|---|
| Club weekend, reported | $500–1,000 |
| Regional weekend | $1,000–2,000 + entry & tires |
| National weekend (kart, engine, tent, mechanic) | $5,000–10,000; SuperNats higher |
| Damage | yours; ask about the deposit |
Why you’d do it
- Zero maintenance, zero trailer
- Try before you buy; try a class before committing
- At national level it’s simply how it’s done
Why you might not
- A season of rentals costs more than a kart
- You learn less about the kart
- Entry, tires and fuel are usually extra; read the quote
Things to think about
- Rent for one race in the class you’re considering before you buy anything
- Ask exactly what’s included: tires? fuel? practice day? data?
Your job as the parent
Read the book. Pay the invoice. Be the calm one when it’s P12.
