The short version
A lot like Adams: porta-potties, limited food, and a track with plenty of patina. It feels more focused on motorcycles (supermoto, mini-moto and minibikes) than karting, though it does karting too, and karts and bikes split the track time. Lots of layouts, forward and reverse, and racing under the lights in summer.
Who designed Apex?
Rocky Moran Jr., a former Indy Lights driver and the son of CART IndyCar driver Rocky Moran. He also designed K1 Circuit Winchester and the old Moran Raceway in Beaumont, so Apex and K1 share a designer.
The Apex kart track
0.9 miles, run clockwise and counter-clockwise, with several configurations. A long front straight with braking at the top of a small rise, a bus-stop chicane, esses, and a double-apex right back onto the straight. There are lights for night racing. Karters warn it gets dusty from the desert and from bikes running the edges, and on shared days the bikes may run the opposite direction to the karts.

Why Apex is great for new drivers
Coaches can actually work with your kid here. They can stand trackside, or set up cones and run drills, you name it. At K1 Circuit you can’t get near the track, and there’s a constant stream of arrive-and-drive sessions and other things happening.
The trade-off: facilities
No indoor area, no air-conditioned space, no paddock club. K1 Circuit has all of that and amazing facilities, but it comes with trade-offs and limitations. Apex and Adams feel more local, less corporate and more user-friendly. The facilities are lacking.
Food, restrooms and what to bring
- Food: basic drinks in the pro shop. There’s an outdoor kitchen we’ve seen running but haven’t tried. Don’t count on it; bring lunch.
- Restrooms: porta-potties. By the end of a Tri-C weekend they’re wrecked, which is rough on moms. Bring wipes and toilet paper.
- Bring: chairs, a pop-up canopy, sunscreen and plenty of water. It hits 100°F in summer.
