STAGE 1 OF 7 · TRY IT
Electric karts, any night of the week. Anaheim, Irvine, Carlsbad.
For kids and adults · ages 48″+ juniors / adults · parent role: racing too, reading a book · $31 a race
Indoor electric rental karts. It’s where nearly everyone starts and it’s the right place to start. You learn whether the kid wants to go again, and whether you can stand watching.
What it costs
| Item | This year |
|---|---|
| Per race | $31 (Irvine), 3 for $74 |
| License | $8.50/yr |
| A month of it | $100–250 |
Why you’d do it
- No gear, no kart, no schedule
- Junior karts from 48″ tall
- Lap times on a screen: the kid learns what a lap time is
Why you might not
- Nothing like an outdoor race kart: heavier, slower, no feel for tires
- Easy to plateau; it’s entertainment, not training
- Doesn’t tell you much about the real sport’s costs
Things to think about
- If they ask to go back three times, take the next step
- Watch whether they’re chasing the lap time or the win; both are fine, but it tells you who they are
Your job as the parent
Race with them or watch from the bar. Either works. Nothing to fix.
We probably did this too long. The moment we sat in an outdoor kart, the indoor stuff felt like bumper cars.
